Through this topic on DPZ, I came across this (to me) incredibly funny picture:

These guys sure know how to chimp! (Wiki)
The Wiki entry on Chimping doesn't cover the source I thought it was from. A few years ago I was talking to a photographer who told me that the word 'Chimping' originally came from a group of zoological researchers that gave a group of chimpanzees a bunch of disposable cameras to see what would happen. The chimps soon found out the small colorful thing made a funny *tsjirp* or *clunck* sound when they pressed that black round thing on top. After the sound the chimps would look at the camera to see what just happened. Since then, digital photographers looking on their LCD's after each shot are accused of chimping.
Could be true, could be made up. I don't know. But the picture sure is funny :)

Today is the first day of the annual Summer festival in my home-town Gorinchem, 'de Zomerfeesten'. (Web-site).
Keep een eye on this space as I will be posting photos of the different artists and bands that play the coming week.

..says the lavatory seat.
After 4.5 years of loyal service, my wooden buddy caved in. It broke. It cracked.

Fare well, and you will be missed. You will soon be replaced by a somewhat hipper model, though.
The last rites are in the garden's fireplace.

Right, the season of holidays and festivals is (as good as) over. This means back to business for my two bands. Yesterday evening we had a little gathering at my house with the new-to-be Folk band I put together. This second meeting was spent listening to songs, talking about what songs to play, in which chords they are to be played and who does what in what song. With a few beers for inspiration of course...
We came up with a list of songs of bands, among others, like: the Pogues, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphy's and Korpiklaani. The last one is going to be pretty tough for me. These guys play Folk in a tempo competing with Swedish Death-Metal! I really need to rehearse more if I want this to work.
We haven't thought of a name for the band yet. There will be plenty of time for that later. First let us get into Gig-playing shape :)

Damn. It *looks* like my mailserver was being used for sending bulk e-mail. This would suck pretty hard. Especially because I check my mailserver regularly on open relays using the relay tests of Abuse.net.

The mail server of my domainhoster was bombing my smtp host with thousands of 'Undelivered mail Returned to sender' messages. This could mean that my mailserver sent these e-mails in the first place with bogus addresses as recipient. Another weird thing was that I could'nt stop postfix
Even killing it with -9 did'nt bring it down. Anyway, I've built a new Postfix version and blocked access of the relay host of my domainhoster for now. I'll give them a call tomorrow.
No sir, I don't like it. I don't like it at all.
[upd] It seems that some low-life, spamming crackwhore has used my e-mail address in the 'From' field in a batch SPAM run. All messages with bogus addresses in the "To" field were rejected by the numerous mail-servers around the globe and got delivered back to me... Great! I'm still blocking traffic from my domain-hoster, but I'll gradually allow their servers back on next week. I hope that the dust has settled by then.

This evening, the Dutch commercial channel RTL7 broadcasted the classic film 'This is Spinal Tap'.
I remember watching this movie when I was a kid. For years I have lived under the impression that Spinal Tap was a real band, famous enough to get a documentary made about them. How little did I know. :) Years later, when I played in a band myself, one of my band members enlightened me and told me that it was a 'Mockumentary' taking the piss out of the 70's Heavy Metal era.

The band is famous for having a series of dead drummers and guitar amplifiers with volume knobs going up to 11. The Spinal Tap myth is carefully fed for decades. Reading the Wikipedia entry, you would think these guys still exist as a real band. I'm not too sure about that :) Over the years, they've appeared on some high-profile festivals. Mostly as a humouristic sidekick if you ask me.
Anyway, if you're interested in some Rock&Roll history and missed it tonight, get the DVD sometime and watch it. It's fun. No, really...

Last night I swapped the two 512MB DIMMs in my MacBook with two 1GB DIMMs. While this procedure is quite straight forward, I bumped into a small yet nasty problem. The internal circuit-boards of the MacBook are covered with a thin, but firm plastic sheet. The chips mounted on the 1GB model DIMM are thicker than on the 512MB model. This physical difference can cause the plastic sheet in the MacBook internals to block free entrance of the DIMMs. While trying sliding the DIMMs in a few times, I could hear the sheet 'wrinkle'. Not good O_o

You can prevent this by sliding a piece of paper into the slot and use that as a 'ramp' to slide the DIMM in freely and leaving the plastic sheet undamaged.
FYI :)

And my taste-buds will know it...
The first BBQ of this year will be grand!
I got some porkchops which I will marinate with fresh ginger, lemon grass and garlic. Some beautiful Tilapia filets marinated in white whine, ground pepper, rosemary and lemon. A potatoe/fish/chili salad as side dish and of course a few bottles of icely chilled Chile Chardonnay.
*Dashes to the kitchen*
Bring it on! ![]()
